Open up your shoulders!
The next time you are giving travel directions, take advantage of the opportunity and give yourself a shoulder stretch at the same time. Try this simple movement sitting or lying down, also. For left turns, extend your right arm and then cross it in front of your body. Allow your elbow to straighten, relax your shoulder and extend out through your fingers. Place your left hand on your right upper arm and gently start to press your right arm in toward your chest. Inhale, and as you exhale, draw your arm closer in toward your body. Notice if your right shoulder is lifting and if it is, invite it to relax even more. Notice any tension or sensations in your back or shoulder and as you continue to breathe deeply send your breath into these areas. Gently release and repeat this “pointers stretch” in the other direction.
